Biosafety Level 3 (BSL 3)
The BSL-3 Laboratory is designed to contain agents that may cause serious or lethal disease as a result of contact or inhalation. Laboratory personnel have specific training in handling disease producing and potentially lethal agents, and are supervised by competent scientists who are experienced in working with these agents. All procedures involving infectious materials are conducted within biological safety cabinets or other physical containment devices. Personnel wearing appropriate personal protective clothing and equipment conduct these procedures. The Laboratory incorporates design features that restrict access to the facility, limit exposure to disease causing agents (pathogens), and prevent pathogens from leaving the facility and presenting a risk to the community.
